Day-by-Day Itinerary
Detailed schedule of our climbing expedition to Cerro Gorra Blanca in the Patagonian Ice Field.
Day 1 – Trekking to Laguna de los 14
Our adventure begins with a transfer to the Río Eléctrico bridge, from where we will start our trek. The route takes approximately 8 hours to reach the "Laguna de los 14" camp, situated at the foot of the majestic Gorra Blanca Glacier. During the first 2 hours, we will cross a lush lenga forest before entering the rocky terrain bordering Lake Eléctrico. Along the way, we will perform two river crossings: Río Pollone and Río Eléctrico, utilizing a zip line with harnesses for the second crossing to facilitate a safe crossing.
Day 2 – Trekking to Paso Marconi & Gorra Blanca Refuge
Today we head towards "Paso Marconi" at an altitude of 1,550 meters above sea level, taking about 6 to 8 hours. Reaching the pass requires favorable weather conditions. Weather permitting, we will be rewarded with unforgettable views of Mount Fitz Roy, Piergiorgio, and Cerro Gorra Blanca, among others. After the initial camp, we must overcome some steep rocky passages before stepping onto the glacier. Here, equipped with crampons and ropes, we will progress to the Gorra Blanca Refuge, also known as the "Eduardo García Soto" Refuge.
Day 3 – Summit Day: Cerro Gorra Blanca
Today is summit day! We will ascend to the summit of Cerro Gorra Blanca, standing at 2,900 meters above sea level, following the normal route along the Northwest ridge. During this climb, we will encounter glacier slopes with inclinations of 30 to 40 degrees, with the possibility of a short steeper section to conquer the final stretch to the summit. Weather permitting, we will witness panoramic views covering the Ice Field, the Gaea Range, Lautaro Volcano, Mount Fitz Roy, and Cerro Torre, among others. After celebrating at the summit, we descend back to the refuge. In total, this will be an approximately 10-hour day with a 1,300-meter elevation gain.
Day 4 – Return to El Chaltén
On this day, we will undertake our return journey from Paso Marconi back to Laguna de los 14, passing by Lake Eléctrico, before concluding our expedition in El Chaltén.
